MMAC is pleased to host an exclusive members-only presentation focusing on women’s cardiovascular health. Heart disease is the number one killer of women worldwide and the leading cause of premature death in women in Canada. Yet it is often underrecognized, underdiagnosed and undertreated. This session will review inequities and knowledge gaps in women's heart health and share an evidence-based approach to understanding traditional, sex and gender-specific and under-recognized risk factors all across a woman's lifespan. Men and women are encouraged to attend to empower themselves with best practice insights and support better outcomes for their patients and the women in their lives - spouses, mothers, sisters, daughters and nieces.
Speaker: Shahin Jaffer, MD, MHSc, FRCPC Clinical Professor, University of British Columbia, General Internal Medicine, Co-Chair, Executive Steering Committee, Knowledge Translation and Mobilization, Canadian Women's Heart Health Alliance, University of Ottawa.
In support of women’s heart health, we encourage all attendees to wear red. This can be any red item of clothing such as a shirt, sweater, tie, or hat. Wearing red shows your support for Wear Red Canada Day and helps raise awareness for women’s cardiovascular health.
